We have power! My house has power!

Yeah. So, we got hit by Hurricane Ike...in freakin' OHIO.

So, yesterday was, like, OMG. Winds, winds everywhere. My neighborhood is a bit trashed. Basically, yesterday for once I wasn't working my other job (I work at a bank on weekdays, weekends I do retail but I take random Sundays off just cuz) so my parents and I went to Florence Mall in Kentucky. It was crazy windy (the car was shaking when we parked) and the lights in the mall kept flickering on and off and half the escalators were out (I told my mom no way was I using the elevator when the power was flickering. Double no if there was a pregnant woman waiting to use the elevator, because TV has taught me that a pregnant woman in the elevator doubles its chances of getting stuck. Trufax. TV would never lie to me). So then after we went to a store across the street and the lights went out for good and no one had power, so we went home to survey the damage before trying to find something to eat.

Bad stuff: neighborhood major messy. Branches and leaves everywhere, lots of trees down. Even some real big ones were on the ground. All the neighbors were out looking and taking pictures of the damage. No power anywhere. Good stuff: all our house really suffered was a part of a gutter came down and a bunch of tree branches. My car was parked under our cypress tree, but the cypress is pretty sturdy and just one tree that goes straight up, not one with a branching trunk like most of the ones that fell, so it was cool.

After that we went looking for food (like a good fandom wanker, I have learned to forage for fast food after I outwalk the hurricane). The Donatos down the street had lights, but no help -- we sat for a good ten minutes without anyone acknowledging our presence so we left, and I think their power went out later because when we came home an hour or two later they were dark. Eventually we ended up all the way on the west side of Hamilton, where we finally found a place that had some damn power. There was a Bob Evans (which was packed) a Papa Johns (also packed), a Burger King (line out the door, drive through circling around the parking lot) and a tiny hole in the wall Chinese place, which wasn't too bad so we went there. Madness was setting in. The owners didn't speak much English but the lady ahead of us said to circle what we wanted on our menu so we did and got our food in 45 minutes or so, but the people behind us didn't and waited an hour just to get the wrong food. Then the people behind tthem were like "What's they give you? Maybe it's our food" and the first people were like "It's not your food!" all heated because, dammit, they finally got food. and ain't no one gettin' their food. Then we went to Walmart and got flashlights and a little handle-crank lamp/radio thing and came home.

I aclled Duke Energy when we got home and they were all "Power will be restored to this area around 9 a. m. (joy!)....Tuesday, September 16th (dammit!)." Fun fact: my dog is spoiled and would not eat his food unless my mom held the flashlight over it. I took a shower in the dark, whee.

I had to go to work this morning even though all the traffic lights were out and all the schools were closed (and our power at the house was still out). Almost all the PNC Banks in the area were without power...except us. We had power. Dammit. I did finally get on the internet, but our server blocks like, half my favorite sites, including all of livejournal and journalfen and half the anime blogs so I had to suffer wondering what the hell happened on Code Geass and Nabari no Ou (the latter is a new minor obsession. I read some of the manga, decided to try the anime, and was mildly enjoying it until episode nine and then I fell madly in love with Gau and Raikou. Dammit again). We weren't too busy but people kept freaking calling all day long. "Are you open?" "Do you guys have power? Are you open?" I ANSWERED THE PHONE, SO YES, WE BLOODY WELL HAVE POWER.

Story: sometimes I joke that my mom is a witch. She substitutes, and sometimes she'll say, "So-and-so hasn't been out sick lately" and then that person will be sick the next day. When we bought Mario Kart for the Wii we'd been having trouble finding it and that morning she'd said she had a dream we'd find it. It's weird. I have apparently inherited her powers, because at four-ish I joked we should close the bank early and say our power went out. I swear not half a minute later THE POWER WENT OUT. And stayed out. I went home early. I have powers, yo.

Our power finally came back but we went for dinner first so I only just now got to check my computer. I love you, computer. I love you, electricity. Half the area's still out and may be out for days (one of the guys at the bank called Duke and they told him the power in his area wouldn't be up until SATURDAY). It's insane. My heart goes to the poor people in Texas who got the actual hurricane, if just the wind knocked out almost 90% of the area around here.

Short version: wind knock out power all night. Me sad. Power come back. Me happy. Me kill bank. Still happy.
