Today some annoying old guy stopped my mom and I while we were leaving the grocery store, trying to get us to sign a petition to have the state amend its Constitution to defining marriage between one man and one woman. Even if I wasn't all for gay marriage I wouldn't have signed the damn thing, just for the way he approached me. Standing half an inch away from me so that I can see every one of your nose hairs? Not the way to gain my vote. If he'd touched my shoulder and called me "honey" (which I swear he was half a step away from doing) I think I would've hit him with my cart. I just gave him the best stink-eye I could manage and growled a "No way" before hurrying off. My mom, who has no feelings either way on the issue, was pretty much "what she said" about it, mainly due to Mr. Petition's ignorance about the concept of personal space. (As to the petition itself...sometimes I really wish I didn't live in southern Ohio. "Buckle on the BIble belt," as my sister puts it. Judging from some of the positively moronic letters I've been reading in the Forum section of the paper, she's right on.)
In more superficial news, I finally saw the third Harry Potter movie and loved it muchly, except for the brief part where this guy sat down in the handicapped seats in front of me with his baby, who kept making "phhblt-phbblt" type noises for a good ten minutes. I don't care if it's a little baby, I want to watch the movie, not hear annoying kid noises. I don't like kids. Thankfully it started crying and the guy took it out of the theater, never to be seen again. The theater for Shrek 2 wasn't as good, unfortunately. Besides the kid who kept squalling, "I don't want to see the movie!" for ten minutes straight before it even started, the natives kept getting restless at various pivotal points during the movie, which almost obscured the dialogue (which is unfortunate, since I really liked that movie. Thank heavens for DVDs and the comfort of my own childfree -- 'cept the dog -- home).
